| Getting Started | To understand machines Learning, children will explore how we(humans) learn. This session further explore some key breakthroughs in computing that is enabling the machines that are shaping our future in making that possible | 1. Appreciate the role of machines in our daily life 2. Compare and contrast human and machine learning/intelligence | 1. Make an intelligence scale chart of the things they interact with (Plants, animals, things, machines, and humans) 2. Roleplay on the futuristic world with Advanced AI | How human intelligence and Artificial Intelligence are similar and different Why is machine learning a buzzword today? How machines can learn compared to humans What are some things machines can do faster than humans and vice versa? |
| Intro to ML | A self-driving vehicle can learn how the human driver is driving and then drive just like him/ her. Or like google images shows the image of a car by learning from humans how the car images are recognized and then goes on to perform the task. They will explore this through unplugged activities and simple programming | 1. Describe what is AI and ML 2. Describe the key stages in ML 3. Explain the usefulness and relevance in today’s age 4. Understand a top-level overview of how they are being used | Make a color sorter using an existing ML engine | How can existing solutions be made better with ML? |
| Programming and ML | Children will refresh some basic programming concepts before they start working on some ML libraries | 1. Refresh programming/python basics 2. Familiarize with relevant ML libraries and Tools | Build Speech to Text converter | What are some programming languages that are popular for ML and why? What parameters are used to decide what tools and libraries to use for a problem |
| Types of Learning – Supervised Learning | We take a deep dive into Machine learning here. Children will explore the entire process of how a supervised learning solution works – Creating a learning library, training, feedback, and more. | 1. Describe the Supervised Learning model 2. Elaborate the key features and common use cases for this | Make a facial mood recognizer | What is the role of a teacher in our learning and is it similar for machines too? |
| Types of Learning – Unsupervised Learning | Children will explore the entire process of how an unsupervised learning solution works. | 1. Describe the unsupervised Learning model and how it compares against supervised learning 2. Elaborate the key features and common use cases for this | 20 Questions Game (Akinator) | If machines learn on their own, can they surpass humans? |
| Guided Project | Children will work in groups to build a project of theirs using the concepts they learned in the coursework | 1. Use the ML concepts to develop a solution with the help | 1. Handwriting Recognition 2. Conversation Partner 3. Where’s Waldo 4. Make a chatbot 5. Photo sorter | What does it involve in making a complete ML-based solution from the beginning |
| Unguided Project | Children will work in groups to build a project of theirs using the concepts they learned in the coursework | 1. Use the ML concepts to develop a solution on their own | What are some problems that are relevant to me that can be solved using ML | |
Guided and Unguided Projects may take longer depending on the learners
